With over 100 years of accumulated experiences in Diabetes, wound and foot care, the IDWI team is composed of a group of Physicians with a passion to improve Diabetic Wound Prevention and Treatment globally by educating healthcare providers throughout the world. Our faculty is uniquely qualified for such a task since they include Physicians from the most esteemed Medical Institutions. Many are Medical School faculty and Instructors and have years of experience training the future world leaders in Medicine and Science as well as visiting doctors, nurses and scholars from around the world. Our faculty includes authors who publish papers in prestigious journals like New England Journal of Medicine and the Lancet. They are frequently asked to lecture both Nationally and Internationally.
IDWI’s approach to Diabetic Wound Prevention and Management is multidisciplinary, including experts in: Endocrinology, Wound Care, Podiatry, Vascular Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Wound Care products and Wound Center Management.
Founded in 2019 at the Longwood Medical area in Boston, the leading resource area for diabetic wound treatment in the world, IDWI was formed through a collaboration of top doctors and lecturers with a common purpose. The purpose is bringing together doctors with years of experience working with diabetic patients to provide a world-class curriculum and training program. We welcome Physicians, Nurses, Podiatrists and Physical Therapists from around the world to join our program.

Become an International Diabetic Wound Specialist
Curriculum
Our course is specially designed to train all professionals around diabetes and wound care including: internists, endocrinologists, surgeons, podiatrists, orthopedic MDs, primary care physicians, nurses, nurse educators, wound specialists, and wound management personnel. Our curriculum offers the most up-to-date clinical and research knowledge, and practical applications to enhance the outcome of your patients. Successful completion of our curriculum can lead to certification as a Diabetic Wound Specialist or Foot Specialist (Podiatric Medicine).
Get Certified
Our Program offers courses leading to two separate certifications: Diabetic Wound Specialist and Foot Specialist (Podiatric Medicine). Certification as Diabetic Wound Specialist requires completion and passing tests for Modules: 1, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9. Certification as Foot Specialist requires completion and passing tests for Modules: 3, 4, 5, 7. Students who successfully complete both certification programs will be eligible to apply for the advanced certification program. This program allows for unique education and training with low teacher to student ratios with esteemed practitioners by utilizing hands-on workshops, remote consultations with teachers and possible placement into programs to observe at Medical Centers in the Boston Longwood Medical area.
Online Course
Seven distinct learning modules designed by physicians from elite medical centers. Each module contains clear objectives. This course includes a self paced curriculum with 90 days to complete, and post-course testing.
On-Site Course
In this 3-day intensive course curriculum, students will move through the seven learning modules. Once completed, students are eligible for post-course testing and the advanced certification program.
Advanced Certification
Annual on-site seminars with leaders in wound care as lecturers and overseeing hands on workshops. Students will have ample opportunity to practice techniques and use the latest in wound care products.
Consulting Services
IDWI will consult with your facility regarding your diabetic foot and wound clinic. We provide design consultation, site inspection and evaluation for accreditation.

The Most Unique and Comprehensive Training in Diabetic Wound Prevention and Management

The Challenge
World-wide the number of people with diabetes is growing rapidly and along with that the occurrences of diabetic foot complications. Access is becoming more difficult and increasingly the responsibility for care will rest with internists, endocrinologists and other nonsurgical physicians. Few, if any, of these doctors have formal training in the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot complications.

The Goal
Utilizing lecturers and advisors from elite medical institutions in Boston as well as other major medical centers we will grow the number of highly educated wound care specialists by educating large numbers of physicians in the most important and impactful aspects of diabetic foot complications.

The Program
This program is comprehensive and consists of an online education curriculum, on-site seminars with hands-on workshops, testing, certification and opportunities to travel internationally to observe wound care in elite medical centers.
The online course is the core of this program so that large numbers of physicians can begin the program right away and wound care knowledge is standardized so future education can be logical built upon existing knowledge.
On-site seminars will have leaders in wound care as lecturers and overseeing hands-on workshops where wound care techniques and wound care products can be experienced.
The International Diabetes and Wound Institute is committed to the exchange of knowledge between doctors from different countries. Physicians who complete this program will be eligible for assistance in being placed in physician exchange programs to observe state-of-the-art wound care therapies in person.
